The 2019 Lunch & Learn summer enrichment program was held at Takoma Park Elementary School in partnership with Montgomery County Public Schools TPES and PBES, the camp enrolled 198 students – the highest enrollment yet. The program serves children from local elementary, middle, and high schools. The elementary school children participated in math and reading instruction taught by MCPS teachers. According to pre- and post-tests, 83% maintained or improved their math or reading abilities during the program. Way to go kids in holding back that summer learning loss!
All of the campers participated in enrichment activities and were provided free breakfast and lunch through the MCPS Summer Food Meals Program. Our enrichment partners provided a wide range of activities such as art, service learning, healthy eating, leadership development, swimming lessons. Lunch and Learn enrichment partners included Crossroads Community Food Network; City Clerk, City of Takoma Park; Small Things Matter; Takoma Park Fire Department; Adventist Community Services of Greater Washington; Difference Makers; and So What Else, Inc. A huge thank you for providing such a wide range of experiences to our campers!
It was a fun summer. Our staff and volunteers, led by Jacquette Frazier and Doris Duarte, worked tirelessly to bring a fun, enriching and educational to summer adventure to Lunch & Learn’s campers. Thank you to all our funders – we couldn’t do this without you – Montgomery County, City of Takoma Park, Republic Restaurant, and Takoma Foundation.
We were also critically funded by individual community members – Thank you!
