DELIVERY DRIVERS

  • Number of Volunteers Needed: 8-10

  • Volunteer Description: take a distribution list, prepare a route, carry food in bags or boxes to participant's residence, contact participant before delivering, observe useful information for Community Health Workers, mark distribution list with delivery results, in a timely manner provide results of delivery to Food Distrubution Coordinator for entry into data base

  • When Are Volunteeers Needed: 1st Fridays and/or Saturdays of the month, usually every other Wednesday of a month (see 2018 food distribution schedule)

  • Anticipated Amount of Time Needed: 3 to 4 hours per delivery day

  • Location for Volunteer Activity: Long Branch Community Center, Clifton Park Baptist Church, Crossroads Farmers Market, community-wide

  • Background and Experience: has a drivers license, owns or has access to a vehicle, owns a GPS, is comfortable making deliveries in unfamiliar areas (often in the dark), able to carry 2 - 3 heavy boxes and bags of food - sometimes at one time, patience with traffic and inaccuracy of GPS and difficulty with parking in multihousing residences and getting access to residences in secured multihousing buildings

  • Orientation and Training: on-the-job training

  • Benefits: Compensation for deliveries. Gratifying relationships, a letter documenting volunteer activity, a gift card at designated number of hours volunteered, invite to CHEER community sponsored events, posting on CHEER  website, other incentives as they become available.

PRODUCE BUNCHER AND BAGGER

  • Number of Volunteers Needed: 3-4

  • Volunteer Description: prepare bags of local produce for pick up and delivery to program participants, includes bunching with rubberbands produce, e.g., kale, collards, carrots, etc.

  • When Are Volunteeers Needed: Wednesday, February 21, Wednesday, March 21, 3:30 - 5:00pm; other dates and times TBD

  • Anticipated Amount of Time Needed: two hours per Wednesday

  • Location for Volunteer Activity: Long Branch Community Center or Clifton Park Church

  • Background and Experience: bagging and bunching is done outside, so tolerance of cold and inclement weather, good opportunity for HS students to get service hours

  • Orientation and Training: on-the-job training

  • Benefits: gratifying relationships, a letter documenting volunteer activity, a gift card at designated number of hours volunteered, invite to CHEER community sponsored events, posting on CHEER  website, other incentives as they become available
